Abuja-based legal firm Law Corridor has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to tighten transparency around the country’s electoral registers and data ahead of future nationwide polls.

Henry Eni-Otu, managing partner at the firm, made the appeal during a press event organised for Law Corridor’s 2026 Founders’ Day in Abuja, according to Voice of Nigeria. He highlighted Sections 19 and 77 of the Electoral Act 2026, which regulate the display of voter rolls and the submission of political party rosters before primary contests and conventions take place.

Eni-Otu stated that the electoral body must clearly outline key deadlines, provide straightforward procedures for citizens to review their records, and handle objections properly. He noted that the commission should also be open about its numbers by separating raw applications, completed processes, and the final register of eligible voters, while offering prompt clarifications if discrepancies surface.

Looking beyond voting processes, the lawyer pushed for key changes to national laws. He asked the National Assembly to remove the rule that makes it compulsory to obtain the consent of the Attorney-General before executing garnishee proceedings against government accounts handled by public officials, arguing that state institutions must respect the authority of the courts.

Eni-Otu also spoke on public health and criminal justice, advocating for the decriminalisation of attempted suicide under Section 327 of the Criminal Code and Section 231 of the Penal Code. He urged federal and state lawmakers to modernise these statutes and direct resources toward mental health care, crisis management, and training for frontline workers.

During the gathering, Law Corridor also announced the arrival of Professor Olanrewaju Aladeitan as an incoming partner. Aladeitan, a legal scholar specialising in Public and International Law at the University of Abuja, brings over twenty years of experience spanning natural resources, energy, corporate practice, and environmental law.
