Nigeria Health Watch is preparing to host the 11th edition of its annual Future of Health Conference. The gathering aims to bring together healthcare innovators, policymakers, investors, and development partners to help homegrown medical solutions reach more communities across Nigeria.
The event is themed "From Innovation to Impact: The Future of Health is Now." According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the initiative seeks to push functional solutions past the pilot stage by tackling hurdles around financing, regulatory policies, and integration into existing public healthcare systems.
Speaking ahead of the summit in Abuja, Vivianne Ihekweazu, the Managing Director of Nigeria Health Watch, noted that patients with critical needs cannot afford to wait years for helpful interventions. She explained that the conference will spotlight working initiatives and link creative teams with institutions that have the capacity to fund and expand their reach.
Ihekweazu pointed out that the event will not fix all the problems facing Nigeria's medical space. However, it will create room for key players to exchange practical experiences and learn from initiatives that are already delivering real results.
The upcoming discussions will also cut across several areas beyond basic healthcare, including maternal care, emergency response, genomic sequencing, and climate change. Agriculture will also form a key part of the conversation because of its direct link to food security and human nutrition.
Ihekweazu explained that farming innovations can cut down post-harvest losses, boost the supply of local food, and curb dependence on foreign imports. She added that past conferences helped spark serious public discourse on private sector health investments and diaspora medical contributions, such as Lagos-based specialist centres set up by returning professionals.
