Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has submitted his team list to the Nigeria Football Federation ahead of the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Tanzania. The federation is expected to release the official roster this week, according to Soccernet.ng.
Nigeria will welcome Tanzania to Uyo on Friday, 13 November, before travelling to Dar es Salaam for the reverse fixture four days later. Both Group L encounters are crucial as the Super Eagles aim to secure valuable points in the qualifying race.
In goal, Stanley Nwabali appears to hold the advantage as Chelle’s preferred starter for competitive outings. The 30-year-old Chippa United shot-stopper started during Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Madagascar in Uyo in September and enters camp on the back of a strong performance, pulling off six saves in a 2-0 away victory against Stellenbosch.
His main competitor, Maduka Okoye, has faced mixed fortunes in Italy with Udinese. While Okoye stopped an Adrian Bernabe penalty during a goalless draw against Parma, his club subsequently conceded five goals against AC Milan on 25 October and another five against Roma on 31 October.
Chelle is also tipped to call up Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo as the third-choice option in the team. Beyond the goalkeeping department, the submitted list is expected to feature returns for Victor Osimhen, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and Tochi Nnadi.
The upcoming matches will test Chelle’s selection choices, particularly in balancing player form with top-flight exposure. The formal squad announcement this week will confirm the final personnel chosen to represent the nation.
